Event Planning & Production

One of my primary responsibilities was supporting the event's development from the early planning stages through its execution.

Organizing a community event required balancing multiple priorities, communicating expectations, and ensuring that participating groups understood their responsibilities.

I worked to create an organized planning process that supported collaboration while allowing different organizations to contribute their own ideas and activities.

My responsibilities included coordinating event preparation, communicating with participating groups, monitoring planning priorities, and helping address logistical challenges.

Throughout the process, I focused on maintaining a clear understanding of the event's objectives and the steps necessary to achieve them.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

A significant part of my role involved working with student organizations and university community members to coordinate a shared event.

Because Safe Halloween brought together people with different responsibilities and priorities, effective communication was essential.

I worked to encourage collaboration, maintain organizational consistency, and support a positive environment for everyone involved.

This experience strengthened my ability to approach leadership as a collaborative process rather than simply delegating responsibilities.

I learned the importance of listening to different perspectives, communicating expectations clearly, and remaining adaptable when plans needed to change.

Community Engagement & Partnership

One of the most meaningful aspects of Safe Halloween was its focus on community engagement.

The event created an opportunity for Michigan State students to connect with local families through an experience centered on creativity, celebration, and service.

My involvement also included supporting the event's partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), connecting the planning process with a broader community-focused mission.

Working on an event with a charitable component reinforced the importance of considering the impact of a project beyond its immediate execution.

It demonstrated how thoughtful organization and collaboration can support experiences that bring people together while contributing to a larger purpose.

Project Management & Problem-Solving

Managing a campus event required many of the same skills used in professional project management environments.

I needed to balance multiple responsibilities, coordinate with different stakeholders, and remain attentive to deadlines and operational needs.

The experience strengthened my ability to organize complex projects into manageable responsibilities while maintaining a focus on the overall event.

It also required flexibility. Event planning rarely follows a completely predictable process, and responding effectively to changing circumstances is an essential part of successful production.

Through this role, I developed a stronger understanding of how preparation, communication, and adaptability contribute to successful project execution.

I particularly valued the opportunity to bring together different organizations and individuals around a shared goal.

This experience helped me recognize how much I enjoy the process of organizing complex initiatives, coordinating teams, and seeing months of planning translate into a real-world experience.

It also reinforced my belief that strong project management is not just about meeting deadlines or completing tasks. It is about creating the structure, communication, and support that allow people to work together successfully.
